As a requirement of test procedures, concrete specimens are cast in standard sizes for compressive and flexural strength determination. Moulds should be manufactured from long-lasting materials, which can retain their form under heavy usage and hence maintain the dimensions of specimens. Engineering tolerances specified for moulds are very strict and the internal finish of the surface must be high to comply with international standards.
